“He wrote poems that brought me great comfort.”

This is Selected Poems of Lee Seong-seon; they’ve selected only the good poems from among his several collections. I’ve known Poet Lee Seong-seon since I was a baby lying there in diapers. Poets used to come to our house to visit my father and drink, and they say they saw me from when I was still in diapers. He was one of those people. He lived below Cheolhaksan Mountain and was very close to my father, so he often came to our hometown house. He saw me from when I was a little kid through elementary, middle, and high school, but he has passed away. Every time I saw him, I thought his face was clear like a sage’s. Like the waters of Seoraksan Mountain—if you go to Baekdamsa Temple in Seoraksan, the stones are white. That’s what he was like. He wrote poems that brought me great comfort.
