I Hope for What Is Forbidden to Me is like an old TV drama: a woman who hates men kidnaps and confines the era’s top male actor, and love blossoms along the way. I picked it up at Kyobo Book Centre without much thought and enjoyed this book, with its thriller elements, far more than Yang Gwi-ja’s best-known work, Contradictions: A Novel. Having suffered from psoriasis since last November, I often lost sleep at night, and this book kept me company at dawn.
