The second book is *The Sheep Man’s Christmas*, a short story by Haruki Murakami. The protagonist, the Sheep Man, is chosen to perform at a Christmas party in memory of an elderly gentleman. He has to compose a piece to play, but he can’t seem to write anything. The reason is a little absurd and amusing: because he ate a doughnut with a hole in it before Christmas, the Sheep Man ends up under an old sheep’s curse. The story unfolds as he sets off to break the curse. Along the way, a series of fantastical adventures gives us a glimpse of Haruki Murakami’s imagination. It leads to a beautiful, heartwarming ending, making it a cheerful little work that goes well with Christmas.
